Episode 1 23:47
Hopes and Dreams
What ATLAS physicists secretly hope to find in the first 13 TeV data.
Physics at the high-energy frontier, from inside the ATLAS experiment.
In Particular was a podcast about physics, and about the process of discovering physics at the high-energy frontier.
It was recorded at CERN in 2015 and 2016, in the months around the restart of the Large Hadron Collider — a stretch of time when the machine was reaching energies no experiment had ever reached, and nobody yet knew what would be in the data. We pointed a microphone at our colleagues and asked them what they hoped for.
We’re on an indefinite hiatus to focus on other things. This archive is revived, and it isn’t going anywhere.
4 episodes, recorded around the restart of the Large Hadron Collider. Play them here, or take the feed with you.
Episode 1 23:47
What ATLAS physicists secretly hope to find in the first 13 TeV data.
Episode 2 32:57
Inside the scramble to get ATLAS ready for record-breaking 13 TeV collisions.
Episode 3 35:15
The pentaquark has arrived. We ask physicists about their favorite particles.
Episode 4 21:57
An unexplained bump in diphoton data. Fluctuation, or a new era?
Two short conversations, filmed in Geneva. One physicist, one idea, a few minutes each.
Short 1
The graviton, and the possibility of extra dimensions.
